Omega Watch –Famous Watch for Famous People

A very young man named Louis Brandt, at La Chaux-de-Fonds in

Switzerland, founded the Omega watch in 1848.  These watches were sold mostly in England at the time, though he also marketed them in

Italy, and the Scandinavian countries. The Omega watches were very well received there and Louis Brandt died a wealthy man. 

After Louis Brandt died in 1879 his two sons took over the business and moved the company to

Bienne in 1890.  The Omega watches grew in fame over the years and enjoyed high popularity all over the world. In 1930 the company merged with Tissot to form a new parent company, SSIH, Société suisse pour l’industrie horlogère SA,

Geneva. . However, in the 1980s along with the rest of the Swiss watch industry it suffered increase competition from the newly emerging Japanese watch industry. However it came through that difficult period and is now firmly under the new company 

name of SMH. Though they are extreme high-end products, the market demand is still very high. This is because they are exceptionally well designed, manufactured with excellent workmanship and totally trouble free for its entire life time.
